Rose Kabuki is the eau de parfum François Demachy composed in 2018 for La Collection Privée Christian Dior. Inspired by Kabuki theater and Christian Dior’s passion for Japan, it wraps a delicate rose in powdery musks, pink at its heart and haloed in white, like a face made up for the stage.

Dior launched Rose Kabuki in 2018 in La Collection Privée Christian Dior, where the fragrance joined other roses of the house, Rose Gipsy and Colle Noire, according to the magazine Sayidaty. François Demachy, Dior’s perfumer-creator, signed the composition.

Kabuki theater

The house recalls Christian Dior’s fascination with Japanese aesthetics, its patterns, colors and forms. It draws in particular on the kimono worn by Kabuki actors, with its supple, refined fabrics, and turns the fragrance into a floral, musky garment strewn with rose petals.

Sayidaty also links the name to the visit of a Kabuki troupe to the Avenue Montaigne boutique in 1955. The flower takes on the look of a stage face: a pink heart, outer petals white like the actors’ makeup.
