François Demachy

This role has been held for more than 10 years by the talented perfumer François Demachy.

Looking back on François Demachy's rise

François Demachy was born in 1949 in Cannes. His father was not a perfumer but a pharmacist. He was, however, raised nearby in Grasse, a Mediterranean city recognized as the world capital of perfumery. Yet he did not immediately turn toward this path, opting instead for studies in dentistry and then physiotherapy. To pay for his studies, he took a job in the factories of the house of Mane, a highly reputed name manufacturing raw materials for fragrances. This experience transformed his life and led him to join the perfumery school of the company Charabot. Once he had his diploma in hand, barely five years later, he was recruited by Chanel fragrances under the responsibility of Henri Robert. It was also within this house that he worked with Jacques Polge, learning the fundamentals of perfumery alongside the greatest names. His career at this major house was a long one, and he spent nearly 30 years at Chanel before moving to a position as director of olfactory development at LVMH for Christian Dior fragrances. He has been Dior's exclusive perfumer since 2006.

He lives his profession with passion and spends most of his time among the 2500 ingredient samples in the house's laboratory in Grasse.
