Where to buy

Each fragrance depicts a passion or a particular moment in the life of the couturier who passed away too soon, and Grand Bal, released in 2012 alongside Oud Ispahan, is no exception. Opulent, luminous flowers, citrus and hedione come together in this Grand Bal to bring out the brilliance of Dior's most beautiful gowns…

Grand Bal, or the floral, fragrant gown signed by François Demachy for Dior

With the private collection, François Demachy grants himself a fragrant recreation in which budgets and commercial criteria have no place, allowing his creativity and his love of fine raw materials to spring forth instantly. Released the same year as Oud Ispahan, Grand Bal is precisely one of those fragrances in which Dior and its in-house perfumer sought only brilliance and fine raw materials, to offer a fragrance worthy of the great couturier who passed away.

Christian Dior loved, above all else, grand balls and joyful evenings where women dressed in their finest gowns and jewelry to enjoy a warm, often summery atmosphere. To pay tribute to this love of grandiloquent festivities, François Demachy composed Grand Bal with accords lit up by sun, flowers and joy. Nor did he forget to bring into this exceptional fragrance the most costly and luxurious raw materials in perfumery, to pay tribute to the extravagance of these worldly events.

Grand Bal is an echo of Christian Dior's grand ball gowns, whose fullness and beauty evoke the unfurled petals of a flower. François Demachy.

Grasse jasmine takes center stage as the star of this Grand Bal fragrance…

Of course Grand Bal is opulent, luxurious, extravagant beyond measure, just like the flowery, resplendent ball gowns signed Christian Dior. But Grand Bal is not merely an object of luxurious desire, it is also a fragrance built around the flower so precious to François Demachy: Grasse jasmine, of course. A flower that is also often the multifaceted star of Dior fragrances, both in older creations such as Miss Dior or Diorissimo and in newer bestsellers such as J'adore.

I love smelling fragrances in situ, in their original setting. The jasmine in Grasse, to which I pay tribute in Grand Bal. François Demachy for Ma Récréation.

Grand Bal thus opens on this sublime Grasse jasmine, enhanced by a fresh bergamot and a powerful, exotic orange blossom. At the heart, the highly sun-kissed and opulent ylang-ylang flower from Mayotte lends its elegance and originality to the velvety peach and the freshness of hedione. Finally, the sandalwood essence from New Caledonia joins with cottony white musks to give Grand Bal a sillage as blazing as it is comfortable, like the rays of a summer sun…
