The first perfume from Réminiscence, according to the house, Patchouli was born in 1970 in Juan-les-Pins, signed by Maurice Sozio and Zoé Coste. Sold today under the name Le Patchouli, as an eau de toilette intense meant for everyone, it brings together Javanese patchouli and cedar, sandalwood and vetiver, over a base of vanilla, tonka bean, labdanum, Tolu balsam and white musks.
What the house declares
Réminiscence divides Le Patchouli into three stages: patchouli essential oil and cedarwood at the top, sandalwood and vetiver in the heart, and vanilla, tonka bean, white musks, labdanum and Tolu balsam in the base.
It describes the boozy, woody facets of the patchouli essence, extended by cedar and sandalwood, over an amber, balsamic base. It ranks the perfume among woody orientals.
The origins of the materials
In 2013, the house specified the origin of its materials, as Kafkaesque lists them: essential oils of Virginia cedar, Javanese patchouli, Haitian vetiver and Australian sandalwood, Spanish labdanum absolute, Madagascan vanilla, tonka bean, Tolu balsam resinoid and white musk.
At the time, it grouped the top and the heart under the heading of woods. The current breakdown places patchouli and cedar at the top, sandalwood and vetiver in the heart, and keeps the ambery, sweet and balsamic materials in the base.
What the label declares
The ingredient list places, after alcohol, water and fragrance, coumarin, limonene, benzyl benzoate, farnesol, linalool, geraniol, isoeugenol, citral and cinnamal, allergens that regulations require to be named.
It ends with an antioxidant, BHT, and three colorants, red, blue and yellow, which Lili nonetheless says were removed from the formulas during the relaunch.
