Between an opening of honey, cinnamon and osmanthus with sweet and spicy accents and a base where patchouli brings out its earthy, damp note, Oajan plays on two distinct registers. Composed by Nathalie Lorson for Parfums de Marly in 2013, as an Eau de Parfum, it connects these two poles through a heart tier devoted to ambergris.

Composition

Honeyed and spicy top

Honey opens the composition with an impression of warmth and sugar, tinged with a fruity nuance. Cinnamon adds the scent of a spicy, woody-accented bark, while osmanthus, a flower whose scent often evokes honey, brings a velvety sweetness.

Ambergris heart

The heart tier features ambergris, a material historically derived from sperm whales and today most often recreated in perfumery through synthetic molecules. Its woody and camphorous facets are accompanied by an animalic note that lends depth to the accord.

Earthy and vanillic base

Patchouli marks the base with its earthy character, with an impression of dampness and a camphorous touch. Vanilla brings sugar, warmth and a spicy accent, and musk completes the tier with a warm, woody and animalic tonality.

An amber family

Amber compositions traditionally combine warm, resinous or vanillic materials with spices. In Oajan, this register comes through vanilla, cinnamon and honey, to which ambergris and musk add their animalic dimension, while patchouli anchors the whole in an earthy tonality.
