Jean-Paul Guerlain is the 4th generation of perfumers at the house of Guerlain, succeeding his grandfather, Jacques Guerlain. Jean-Paul Guerlain is considered an olfactory genius, being able to recognize 3,000 different scents, and became, moreover, an expert on the Guerlinade. His first fragrance, Vétiver, was released in 1959 and dazzled the world of perfumery. Over a 45-year career, Jean-Paul Guerlain created 43 fragrances! He was also a staunch defender of natural materials and often opposed the substitution of synthetic materials. Jean-Paul Guerlain modernized the house and leaves behind a remarkable legacy, including the fragrances Samsara, Nuit d'Amour, Habit Rouge, and also Champs Elysées.

Nahéma is a particularly refined composition, and Jean-Paul Guerlain wished to place rose absolute at the heart of his creation. The opening of Nahéma is meant to be very fresh and citrus, combining bergamot and mandarin with rose. The heart of Nahéma is laden with rose absolute and fruits such as peach with its velvety character, as well as passion fruit. Rose has always been considered the queen of flowers. It is one of the most widely cultivated flowers in the world, along with jasmine. In perfumery, two types of rose are mainly used, namely rosa centifolia and rosa damascena. According to scientists, the appearance of the rose dates back more than 35 million years. In 1700, the arrival of rose bushes from China and Japan transformed rose cultivation in France. Today's rose bushes are the result of several millennia of transformation and hybridization. In perfumery, rose gives off very floral, sweet and warm tonalities. Finally, the base of Nahéma is meant to be smooth and deep, combining sandalwood, patchouli, benzoin and vanilla. Siam benzoin, also called Laos benzoin or styrax, has officially existed since 1939. Its resin is orange-yellow in color and can bring caramel to mind. Benzoin was once burned as incense to purify the atmosphere and was also used in religious rituals.
