The many symbols contained in Matsuri

Since the creation of the Annayake house in 1928, it has remained deeply attached to Asian tradition. Nevertheless, Matsuri is by far one of the house's products most laden with symbolism. Moreover, this begins with its name. Matsuri are popular Japanese festivals held in every locality. Most of them are linked to a religious celebration and provide an occasion for everyone to gather with friends. As a gathering place, Matsuri festivals allow people to play, eat, drink or buy local specialties. Children fish for goldfish there. Fireworks resound in the dark night. Groups parade through the villages dancing… What is more, these are also traditional festivals whose purpose is to protect rice crops from blight. Beyond its name, Matsuri is also housed in a superb red bottle. Red is a particularly positive color in Asian countries. There, red is seen everywhere and this color literally floods every advertisement, sign and package in that part of the world. This should not be seen as a reference to the communist flag but rather as a reference to good fortune. Indeed, ancient legends tell of an animal called Nian that devoured people every year as spring approached. It was afraid of red. That is why this color is today a powerful symbol in Japan, capable of protecting anyone who claims it. In this sense, the Matsuri fragrance can be regarded as a true good luck charm.

As Matsuri is a fragrance placed under the sign of celebration, it is clear that joie de vivre bursts forth from every side. It highlights ylang-ylang, the exotic ingredient par excellence woven with sweetness and luminosity. This is paired with the elegance of red peony as well as the spicier notes of clove. The whole is then softened by the fruity, juicy presence of pear nectar and wild plum. Lilac, for its part, brings a more powdery dimension to the whole.
