REPLICA On a Date is an eau de toilette from Maison Margiela, unveiled at the end of 2022 in the Replica collection and composed by Carlos Benaïm with the sommelier Manuel Peyrondet. The memory of a date in Provence in 2014, it pairs a blackcurrant liqueur accord, bergamot and pink pepper with a heart of Isparta rose, geranium and davana, over a base of patchouli, vetiver, moss and musks.
Maison Margiela breaks On a Date down into three stages: a blackcurrant liqueur accord, bergamot oil and pink pepper oil at the top; Isparta rose petal essence, geranium oil and davana oil at the heart; patchouli essence, vetiver oil, a moss accord and musks at the base.
The blackcurrant liqueur accord is its main material, a creation of the perfumer: juicy, colorful, tangy notes lifted by a liqueur-like inflection, to recreate the scent of ripe grapes warmed by the sun. The zesty, sparkling bergamot conveys the excitement of the date.
The Isparta rose is obtained by hydrodistillation, and its essential oil is blended with the concentrated rosewater from the same process. According to the house, the Bali patchouli brings woody, earthy, mineral notes, tinged with the sensuality of Provençal vineyards at dusk.
