L’Homme À la Rose

L’Homme À la Rose is an eau de parfum by Maison Francis Kurkdjian, released in September 2020: the masculine counterpart to À la Rose, which Francis Kurkdjian presents as his free interpretation of a rose for men. A grapefruit accord and an essence of Damask rose open the composition, clary sage and amber woods extend it, and centifolia rose and cistus close it.

The house breaks L’Homme À la Rose down into three stages: a grapefruit accord and an essence of Damascena rose at the top; an essence of clary sage and amber woods at the center; an absolute of centifolia rose and an essence of cistus at the base.

What the house declares

Its amber woods combine, according to the house, synthetic molecules from the family of Ambroxan, Cetalox or Cashmeran with natural materials such as patchouli, sandalwood, cedar and vetiver, for an intense, dry and enveloping base.

It describes clary sage as fresh and zesty, green and floral, close to lavender, and the Damask rose from Bulgaria as honeyed, slightly spicy, with hints of pear, lychee and raspberry.

What the label declares

The ingredient list, which carries the formula code 2F231, names after the alcohol, fragrance and water an ultraviolet filter, bergamot oil, Iso E Super under its name of tetramethyl acetyloctahydronaphthalenes, linalool, limonene and a white musk, hexamethylindanopyran.

Further on it cites lemon oil, patchouli oil, a synthetic sandalwood, trimethylcyclopentenyl methylisopentenol, rose oil, rose ketones, eugenol, citral and vanillin.

What the list adds

Bergamot and lemon support the grapefruit at the top, without appearing in the breakdown. Patchouli and the sandalwood molecule confirm the natural and synthetic materials the house attributes to its amber woods.
