Love, don’t be shy is the first fragrance Kilian Hennessy created for his house, launched in 2007 and composed by Calice Becker. The house describes it as a gourmand that avoids the classic accord of ethyl maltol and patchouli: an orange blossom absolute opens the composition, honeysuckle and rose meet a marshmallow accord, over an amber base.
Gaia Fishler, on The Non-Blonde, finds it daring to base a luxury fragrance on pink marshmallow, but judges it a great success for fans of the genre: fluffy, pastel, very sweet, with no fruit and no perceptible animalic note.
What critics say
Gaia Fishler, The Non-Blonde (2012)
Gaia Fishler finds it took nerve to base a luxury fragrance on pink marshmallow and sell it at that price. She nonetheless judges the result very successful, provided you like the genre, and describes a fluffy, pastel and frankly sweet fragrance.
She worries about its effect on a skin that amplifies sweetness, and welcomes the absence of fruity notes. Her marshmallow has nothing of industrial candy: she finds in it the soft texture of a macaron filling.
She notes that the house lists a reconstituted civet among the materials, without detecting any animalic note herself.
