Talent in the service of Guerlain’s Ideal Man
In order to create L’Homme Idéal l’Eau de Parfum, the house of Guerlain called upon its official perfumer, Thierry Wasser, alongside Delphine Jelk. Thierry Wasser follows in the footsteps of 4 generations of Guerlain perfumers. While he does not bear the name, he nonetheless possesses the talent of his predecessors. Genuine, serious and highly gifted, Thierry Wasser has been the official perfumer of the house of Guerlain since 2008. He is responsible for magnificent successes, such as Idylle, La Petite Robe Noire and L’Heure de Nuit. After studying fashion, Delphine Jelk turned to perfumery and graduated from the renowned Institut de Parfumerie in Grasse. It was in 2013 that Delphine Jelk joined the Guerlain brand, alongside Thierry Wasser. She is behind beautiful fragrances such as Joyeuse Tubéreuse and Fall Flowers.
L’Homme Idéal Eau de Parfum, oriental and woody notes
L’Homme Idéal opens on the freshness of bergamot, heightened by spicy notes that give the whole composition its L’Homme Idéal character. Native to Persia, bergamot is mainly grown in the province of Reggio Calabria (Italy). While bergamot has the spherical shape of an orange, it has the color of a lemon. It should be noted that bergamot is not eaten; it is used entirely for its essential oil. At a time when perfumes were composed solely of natural products, bergamot served as a fixative in numerous compositions. Bergamot offers fresh, zesty, fruity, even tangy scents. Then, the heart of L’Homme Idéal pairs floralcy with gourmand character through the presence of almond and Bulgarian rose. Also called Damanesca rose, Bulgarian rose thus refers to the city of Damascus. The first specimens arrived in France in 1254 through the knight Robert de Brie. Regarded as the Queen of Flowers, rose is one of the most widely cultivated flowers in the world. In perfumery, Damanesca rose is renowned for its delicate, floral and sweet scent. Finally, the base of L’Homme Idéal is at once sensual, enveloping and reassuring, combining tonka bean, vanilla, sandalwood and a leather accord. Square in shape, the bottle is meant to be understated. The transparency of its front face nonetheless contrasts with the coppery-brown lacquer of its side panels.
