Insolence is the eau de parfum that Guerlain drew in 2008 from the 2006 Insolence, signed by Maurice Roucel. The house builds it around an overdose of violet, paired with iris, orange blossom and red fruit notes, a first for Guerlain. Victoria Frolova hears in it an echo of L’Heure Bleue, Elena Vosnaki an outsized floral, close to Météorites.
The house describes three tiers: violet in the top, wild strawberry and orange blossom in the heart, sandalwood, vanilla, iris and tonka bean in the base.
Violet and iris
The violet accord, recreated by Guerlain’s perfumers, carries the whole composition. Iris answers it with a powdery velvet, and orange blossom adds a luminous note that wild strawberry lifts with a fruity sparkle.
A base of woods and vanilla
Sandalwood, vanilla and tonka bean round out the base, where iris keeps its powdery texture. The house describes a round, enveloping eau de parfum, more intimate than the eau de toilette.
