Insolence is the eau de parfum that Guerlain drew in 2008 from the 2006 Insolence, signed by Maurice Roucel. The house builds it around an overdose of violet, paired with iris, orange blossom and red fruit notes, a first for Guerlain. Victoria Frolova hears in it an echo of L’Heure Bleue, Elena Vosnaki an outsized floral, close to Météorites.
Serge Mansau designed a spinning-top bottle of three stacked half-spheres for Insolence; the eau de parfum now comes in the bee bottle.
For the 2006 launch, Guerlain entrusted the Insolence bottle to the sculptor Serge Mansau. He stacked three glass half-spheres into a spinning top that seems to turn on itself, a dizzying shape echoing the daring the house attributes to the fragrance.
The eau de parfum has since joined the bee bottle, designed in 1853 for Empress Eugénie and now Guerlain’s emblem. The bees, an imperial symbol, stand out in relief on the glass.
