Gentleman Original

Givenchy Gentleman, the fragrance of a modern and free-spirited man. Givenchy is a fashion house created by Hubert de Givenchy in 1952. At the outset, Givenchy focused solely on haute couture. Gradually, the house extended its expertise to other fields such as leather goods, jewelry, and perfumes

In 1974, Givenchy decided to create a third men’s fragrance to expand its catalog. This is how the house gave rise to Gentleman, now considered a cult scent. Moreover, this men’s fragrance recently gave rise to a more modern reinterpretation of its scent. Originally, it was a chypre and leathery juice, created by perfumer Paul Léger. Fully avant-garde at the time of its creation, it has managed to endure through the decades without losing any of its boldness. The result is a timeless juice. But what about its bottle?

A bottle unchanged since its creation

Since its creation in 1974, the visual of Givenchy’s Gentleman has remained exactly the same. Streamlined and avant-garde, it has managed to endure through the decades without ever losing any of its charm. Still contemporary, it is a timeless object almost impossible to date. What is more, the new version of Givenchy’s Gentleman preserves most of the elements of this design. In designing this bottle, Hubert de Givenchy had a very discerning eye. By stripping his bottle of any superfluous detail, he made it an object that never goes out of style, forever etched in men’s collective memory.

Gentleman, an elegant, streamlined bottle

For this visual, Hubert de Givenchy relied on restraint and transparency. Thus, its bottle consists of a cubic base, made of heavy, thick glass, a guarantee of its overall refinement. It has a perfectly stable footing, like a man standing proudly on his own two feet. Its shoulders, for their part, are sturdy, lending it greater virility. On the other hand, it should be noted that the edges of this cube have been slightly softened and rounded, as if to reveal all the tenderness concealed behind this pronounced masculinity. Its label, meanwhile, is a simple white rectangle bearing the name of the house and that of this fragrance. It stands out against a pale yellow juice, both neutral and highly luminous.

The opaque black cap chosen by Givenchy

It should be noted, however, that the bottle of Givenchy’s Gentleman is topped with an opaque black cap. It is fitted with a thick collar, before narrowing into a slimmer cylinder. Surprisingly, this cap stands in total contrast to the base of this bottle. Indeed, while the bottle as a whole relies on transparency, the cap dares a very dark and completely impenetrable shade. Yet harmony prevails. It is a little as if the Gentleman were wearing a top hat. This only heightens its elegance. Givenchy’s Gentleman readily dresses in a tuxedo, and it must be acknowledged that this one fits him like a glove. Moreover, what better garment than this one to complete a man’s elegance, whatever his age. Givenchy’s Gentleman displays a refined and timeless style. Its bottle, meanwhile, comes in different sizes, in 50 or 100 ml spray bottles.
