Do Son is the eau de parfum Diptyque drew in 2013 from its 2005 eau de toilette, both signed by Fabrice Pellegrin. It stems from a memory of Yves Coueslant, co-founder of the house, who spent his childhood summers in Do Son, on Ha Long Bay: a tuberose at dusk, surrounded by orange blossom, jasmine and amber woods.
In 2005, Robin of Now Smell This and Victoria of Bois de Jasmin saw the eau de toilette as a fresh, airy tuberose rather than a heady one. In 2022, Sabrina of The Beauty Look Book found the eau de parfum richer and more floral, and ended up preferring it.
What critics say
The eau de toilette, in 2005
For Robin (Now Smell This, November 7, 2005), Do Son is a light, fresh tuberose, like petals submerged in water, more fresh than sultry; she finds it lovely and sees it as better suited to spring than to fall.
Victoria (Bois de Jasmin, September 26, 2005) gives it three stars: a misty, delicate fragrance, to be sprayed rather than dabbed, with an immediately uplifting effect, but a rather linear composition.
The eau de parfum
Sabrina (The Beauty Look Book, March 24, 2022), a regular wearer of the eau de toilette, discovered the eau de parfum in a boutique: she found it richer, with stronger tuberose notes, and now prefers it.
