Hermès names four materials: butterfly lily, miracle berry, oakwood and patchouli, which the house says remain faithful to the structure of a traditional chypre. The launch press adds bergamot, and Christine Nagel herself adds Akigalawood.

Calabrian bergamot opens the fragrance with miracle berry, a small red fruit from Ghana and Benin whose miraculin sweetens everything you eat. Christine Nagel had fifteen kilos shipped in; unconvinced by the extract, she recomposed its slightly apricot-like scent herself.

Denyse Beaulieu, for Nez, smells the touch of blackcurrant with which the perfumer likes to lift her fruity accords, with shades of slightly overripe apricot and mirabelle plum. Elena Vosnaki, of Perfume Shrine, finds the top tart when worn, somewhere between bergamot and grapefruit.

Heart

Butterfly lily, which the house calls heady, forms the bouquet. Christine Nagel presents it as a material never before used in perfumery; other accounts of the launch speak of a first in a feminine fragrance. Elena Vosnaki perceives only a few floral touches, which soften the leather effect.

Base

Oakwood and patchouli carry the base. Christine Nagel pairs a classic patchouli with Akigalawood, a patchouli derived from Givaudan’s biotechnology. Denyse Beaulieu sees the roasted oak taking the place of the moss’s bitterness; that, in her view, is where the leathery effect takes shape.

What the label declares

The ingredient list Hermès publishes in France has nineteen entries. None of the announced materials appears by name: the butterfly lily, the miracle berry, the oak and both patchoulis stay within the word parfum, placed between alcohol and water.

It lists two UV filters, ethylhexyl salicylate and butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, an antioxidant and a light stabilizer, alongside the regulated allergens: benzyl salicylate and benzoate, limonene, geraniol, hexyl cinnamal, linalool, citronellol, benzyl alcohol, farnesol, isoeugenol, citral and eugenol.

What stays out

The leather remains an idea: Christine Nagel seeks its feel, not its smell, and no leather note is declared before the 2025 Intense. Oakmoss, a pillar of the classic chypre, appears nowhere. Blackcurrant, apricot and mirabelle plum are critics’ readings, not announced materials.
