Barénia, launched by Hermès in September 2024, is the chypre Christine Nagel refined for years without any brief from the house. Named after a saddlery leather, it pairs bergamot, miracle berry and butterfly lily with a base of oakwood, patchouli and Akigalawood, a patchouli born of biotechnology.
A glass bottle with elliptical curves designed by Philippe Mouquet, topped with a metal plate of pyramid studs inspired by the Collier de Chien bracelet.
Philippe Mouquet designed the bottle after the Collier de Chien bracelet, an emblematic Hermès piece. The house sees in it a balance between the softness of elliptical curves and the strength of a metal plate topped with pyramid studs with rounded facets.
The plate is silver-toned metal, Journal du Luxe notes, recalling that the Collier de Chien still features in the house’s collections. At the center of the glass, a final stud is shaped within the mass, a detail that makes the bottle, for Hermès, a true jewel.
The 30, 60 and 100 ml bottles are refilled with a 125 ml refill sold separately. The house presents Barénia as a refillable object, meant to be kept and refilled rather than replaced.
