Mugler's star men's fragrance: A*Men Thierry Mugler is an extraordinary creator who has always shown profound audacity. He pursued this same ambition when he ventured into the field of perfumery. This began with the release of the perfume Angel, in 1992, considered today to be the first gourmand perfume in the entire history of women's perfumery.
After offering Angel in 1992 with unprecedented success in perfumery, Thierry Mugler wished to offer the same gourmand qualities in a men's fragrance, Angel's alter ego, A*Men. A*Men would be designed by Jacques Huclier as a fragrance with multiple faces, faces that wonderfully embody the twenty-first-century man, caught between strength and energy, gourmand sweetness and virile sensuality.
A*Men, or the contrasted fragrance between reassuring comfort and absolute modernity, signed by Jacques Huclier for Mugler
In 1992, Thierry Mugler and his perfumer Olivier Cresp made a strong impression with the futurist designer's very first fragrance, Angel. The very first fragrance to offer women sweet, gourmand scents, Angel would upend women's olfactory habits by launching a trend that would establish itself and remains dominant in perfumery to this day: gourmand fragrances. How could one imagine that, given Angel's tremendous success, Thierry Mugler would not offer it a masculine alter ego?
Four years later, and this time with the meticulous work of Jacques Huclier, Angel*Men (which would later become A*Men) set out to conquer the men's market. Crafted as a fragrance that is both highly innovative and relatively classic, A*Men delights in offering men the beauty of its multiple contrasted accords.
Indeed, A*Men was first conceived by Jacques Huclier as a friendly fragrance, one with classic, reassuring citrus and aromatic scents. But these classic accords also, and above all, serve to launch modern, even futuristic accords, such as the famous asphalt note composed exclusively by Jacques Huclier for A*Men, or the scents of roasted coffee.
I think A*Men is a friendly fragrance. At first it was a bit strange, then little by little more and more people came to love this fragrance. I try to make reassuring fragrances, and then afterward, I add ingredients to make them become more mysterious, more interesting and more grandiose. The first men's gourmand fragrance: A*Men by Thierry Mugler
Of course, A*Men would seem to be the finest olfactory summary of the multifaceted personality of the designer who gave it his name. Thierry Mugler wanted a men's fragrance in his own image; Jacques Huclier gave him just that, and more: he gave men their very first gourmand fragrance without making them lose their classic scents or their fine virility.
Thus A*Men unfolds in three olfactory chapters. It opens first with an energetic chapter, fairly classic for men's fragrances, thanks to aromatic notes of mint, coriander and lavender paired with a tangy bergamot and a touch of hedione. Then the absolute power of cocoa, paired with notes of roasted coffee and tonka bean, opens the doors to the second chapter, the gourmand notes of this A*Men that bring us back to the beauty of childhood memories. Finally, the sensual, deep patchouli-vanilla accord closes this fine story of A*Men with a final chapter that is among the most sensual and virile.
