Ambre Eternel is rooted in an assortment of several fragrances. It belongs to Guerlain’s Absolus d’Orient collection. The Guerlain family has always been fascinated by the Orient and the beauty of India. This is where the inspiration for many of its creations came from, most notably the emblematic Shalimar. This collection aims to pay tribute to exotic raw materials in perfumery. This time, it is amber that takes center stage. Ambergris is a rare and precious raw material. In its natural form, it comes from the sperm whale and reveals multiple facets on its own. It is at once animalic, as if oxidized by salt sea water, and enhanced by the sun’s rays. While ambergris was once particularly prized in perfumery, it has become rarer in fragrance composition today. This, however, has nothing to do with its scent but rather with its exorbitant cost. Nevertheless, Guerlain took on the challenge of creating a fragrance built on this material, with unmatched elegance. Ambre Eternel offers a modern amber of impeccable quality. Multiple scents blend within it, at times marine, sometimes warm or animalic. Ambre Eternel comes across as a powerful, sensual and voluptuous fragrance. It is also designed to be worn equally well by men and women.

The unisex, sensual and oriental scent of Ambre Eternel

As usual, this fragrance is the work of the house of Guerlain’s official perfumer, Thierry Wasser. He placed amber as the central pillar of its composition. To achieve this unique accord, he blended several different qualities of ambergris until reaching a kind of olfactory perfection. Ambre Eternel thus moves between woody, marine, spicy and sensual tonalities. All of this is paired with the freshness of cardamom as well as coriander. Floral notes also reinforce the elegance of the whole. The heart of Ambre Eternel is built around orange blossom and ylang-ylang. Finally, it closes on a leathery, woody and amber breath. As for the bottle, Ambre Eternel is housed in an emblematic Guerlain flacon. Cylindrical in shape, it is lacquered in a deep violet black. The design draws on Guerlain’s legendary Flacon aux Abeilles and is adorned with a plum-colored ribbon at the neck. A golden label is then placed at its center on the front face. It is decorated with intricate arabesques that further enhance its oriental character.
