Allure Homme

The story of Allure is almost innate for the house of Chanel. Indeed, the entire philosophy of the brand rests on enhancing the allure of those who wear its garments. So it is only logical that Chanel decided to create a fragrance named Allure, intended at first for women, in 1996. Given its success, men then began to envy it, and thus its masculine counterpart made its appearance in 1999 under the name Allure Homme. So, let's take a closer look at what Allure means according to Chanel.

Allure Homme is a highly charismatic composition. Released in 1999, Allure Homme followed Allure Femme, released 3 years earlier. Allure Homme is a fragrance that is at once balanced, contemporary and harmonious. Allure Homme represents all the strength of a man of timeless elegance. Created by Jacques Polge, the composition of Allure Homme is a fresh, sensual balance of woody-spicy notes. Allure mattered greatly to Gabrielle Chanel, who defined it as something indefinable that one either has or does not have, but which makes all the difference.

Jacques Polge, the composer of Allure Homme

Different from fashion and from charisma, allure is indeed something indefinable. After the success of Allure Femme, the man who was Chanel's in-house perfumer for more than 30 years decided to offer its alter ego with Allure Homme. This fragrance would later also be extended with the Allure Homme Sport range. Jacques Polge joined the house of Chanel in 1978 and succeeded Henri Robert, the father of N°19. He is the brand's third nose. Jacques Polge enjoys exploring and blending noble, sensual raw materials. Jacques Polge managed to carry on the style and values of the house of Chanel while modernizing them. In 2013, Jacques Polge retired, leaving his place to his son, Olivier Polge, just as talented as he is. Jacques Polge is responsible for magnificent fragrances, such as N°19 Poudré, Coco Noir, and Coco Mademoiselle.

The harmony of Allure Homme's 4 facets

Jacques Polge therefore chose to build the composition of Allure Homme around 4 facets that express themselves in turn, namely the green facet, the spicy facet, the woody facet and the soft facet. The balance of these 4 facets is absolutely perfect. Allure Homme opens with ultra-fresh notes of lemon and mandarin paired with the velvety softness of peach. The heart is very floral for a masculine fragrance, combining freesia, rose, jasmine and geranium. These floral tonalities are heightened by Madagascar black pepper and also by coriander. Finally, the base carries us toward a sensual, enveloping sillage, woody and virile thanks to the presence of Venezuelan tonka bean, labdanum, vanilla, vetiver and cedar.

Understated and refined, the bottle of Allure Homme is in total keeping with its composition. Allure, an attitude dear to Mademoiselle, is today showcased through Allure Homme, the masculine counterpart of Allure, the feminine fragrance, released 3 years earlier.
