Yet, if we still hold this title, it is above all thanks to houses like Berdoues, which have known how to evolve their scents, offering us modern fragrances still steeped in rich heritage and artisanal know-how. This is how the 1902 collection was created. Paying tribute to Berdoues' founding date, this collection is now enriched with a new fragrance named Pivoine & Rhubarbe.

1902, Berdoues' tribute collection

1902 is a fragrance collection that pays tribute to the history of Berdoues but also to that of perfumery in general. Indeed, it nods to the house's founding date, at the start of the last century, when Eaux de Cologne reigned supreme. At the beginning of the 20th century, men and women wore almost exclusively Eaux de Cologne. As a result, these ever-fresh essences remain deeply anchored in our collective memory. To keep them from being forgotten, Berdoues brings them back in a more contemporary form, while giving them more longevity than before. Most of the fragrances in the 1902 collection are conceived as soliflores. In other words, they are built around a single essential ingredient, such as violet, lavender, citrus, or rose. Here, this new fragrance goes further. It combines two iconic perfumery ingredients, namely peony and rhubarb.

Pivoine & Rhubarbe, a very feminine and refreshing fragrance

Like all the fragrances in Berdoues' 1902 collection, Pivoine & Rhubarbe comes in a cylindrical glass bottle, at once clean-lined, timeless and highly refined. The transparency of its walls reveals a pink-colored juice, further encircled by a more vivid red band. An embossed white label also bears its name on the glass. The whole appears fairly classic, while a more modern chrome cap tops the bottle. Pivoine & Rhubarbe comes in a 100 ml size and is presented in a white cardboard box, decorated with numerous peony flowers.
On the scent side, Pivoine & Rhubarbe by Berdoues is as pure as morning dew. It carries a breeze of freedom and lightness into daily life. Its green, tangy accents open on a blend of rhubarb and grapefruit. The bitterness of these ingredients is softened by the fruitier addition of lychee. Then, the heart of Pivoine & Rhubarbe turns more floral. It combines rose, peony and magnolia, for a slightly vanilla-tinged result. Gradually, Pivoine & Rhubarbe becomes more sweet, wrapping itself in a base of amber and cedar.
