1902 Amande Tonka

Henri Berdoues then arrived, in 1936, himself giving way to Pierre Berdoues in 1970. Now, embodying the fourth generation of the family to run this company with passion, it is Sophie Berdoues's turn to carry on this legacy. To pay tribute to her forebears, she conceived the 1902 collection, the date on which the house of Berdoues was born. Today, a newcomer joins this fragrance lineup. It is called Amande & Tonka.

Berdoues's 1902 collection, a dive into history

As one will have understood, Berdoues's 1902 collection pays tribute to the more than century-old history of this exceptional brand. For many decades now, Berdoues has carried its precious expertise across the entire world. Strong in these innovations, while never forgetting its heritage, the house has managed to move through the eras successfully. In perpetual pursuit of modernity, Berdoues here changes register and reminds us of what the beginnings of our perfumery were. Indeed, until the early part of the last century, men and women perfumed themselves almost exclusively with Eaux de Cologne. The iconic freshness of these products thus remains deeply rooted in the collective imagination. Even unconsciously, we are all drawn to invigorating and revitalizing scents. Here, Berdoues reinterprets them with boldness. Amande & Tonka seems to hold within it all the Berdoues family's love for haute perfumery. Cradled since childhood by raw materials, I grew up surrounded by the creations developed by my grandfather and my father and all the emotions they bring, explains Sophie Berdoues. Today, I am committed to cultivating our expertise and revealing raw materials, in order to offer the finest creations.

Amande & Tonka, a light yet warm fragrance

Like all the fragrances in the 1902 collection, Amande & Tonka is built around one particular ingredient. Here, it is almond. Indeed, as the name of this fragrance suggests, tonka bean is present, but it only reinforces the almond and powdery notes of this composition. It is this note that gives it all its originality. Amande & Tonka comes in a 100 ml spray bottle, cylindrical in shape, common to all the fragrances in the same range. Here, the transparency of the bottle's walls reveals a yellow, sun-kissed juice. A label bearing its name appears with restraint on its front face. The whole is topped with a more contemporary chrome cap. In truth, no one could really assign an age to this design, any more than to the recipe it contains. Amande & Tonka holds all the soul of the old Eaux de Cologne, while retaining greater longevity and a warm quality that went untapped 100 years ago. Amande & Tonka opens with a fresh, green blend of grass, violet leaf and pear. Then, its heart explores a feminine register based on mimosa and hawthorn. It is also at this moment that almond makes its appearance. The whole concludes with a more pronounced sensuality of musk, sandalwood and tonka bean.
