Tom Ford launched Noir Extreme in 2015 and lent his own face to the campaign. Sonia Constant, who composed the formula, steers Noir toward an amber woody style: spices and citrus in the top, a kulfi accord, rose, jasmine and orange blossom in the heart, and a base of amber, sandalwood and vanilla. The translucent black glass bottle bears a gold logo and cap.
The house describes a rich blend of warm spices and glowing citrus that gives way to a kulfi accord and floral notes: rose absolute, jasmine and orange blossom. The base, woody and laden with amber, is studded with sandalwood and vanilla embers.
Among the key notes, the house lists North African neroli oil, saffron, Indian kulfi, rose absolute, sandalwood and vanilla. The launch list spelled out the top: mandarin, neroli, saffron, cardamom and nutmeg.
A kulfi in the heart
Kulfi is an Indian frozen dessert; the house describes it as made from Himalayan snow and pistachio, and pairs it with a lentisk accord, the resin known as mastic. Rose, jasmine and orange blossom form a bouquet around it.
What stays out
The launch list added woody notes to the base and lentisk to the heart; the house no longer mentions either, and both remain in the description. Pistachio, for its part, is only a component of kulfi, not a note in its own right.
