Indeed one of the best known roses is the centifolia rose or May rose, which has the good fortune to grow on the southern lands of Grasse. As a true passionate lover of the beautiful thorny flower, Molinard has always sought to work multiple fragrant compositions around this splendid rose that makes noses the world over dream.

The rose of Grasse, centifolia rose, has a multitude of faces, or rather facets, that allow for the composition of fragrances as delicate and refined as they are different from one another. It is hardly surprising that the great perfume house Molinard, like Guerlain or Chanel, chose from its very first fragrances in 1860 to honor the hundred-leaved rose by already naming its fragrance “Rose.”

However, the centifolia rose, or May rose, or Provence rose, allows for a thousand and one interpretations. Amandine Marie, a perfumer at Firmenich, told Marie France that one could work with rose one's whole life without ever managing to extract all its secrets, nor grow tired of it. Thus in 2015 we had the great privilege of being able to smell, with admiration, Molinard's work around the queen Centifolia through Rose, one of the first bottles offered in the Les Éléments collection.

Rose, or the subtle blend of floral, spicy and aldehydic notes

The new collection offered by the house of Molinard, Les Éléments, aims to be intimate and unique in order to showcase a single fragrant material of choice. The bottle of Rose, like its counterparts in the collection, is thus either dressed in a vivid violet, a Provençal symbol of the house, or soberly presented in a cylindrical glass “distiller” topped with a copper cabochon.

From the top notes, Rose dresses itself in a rose... with citrus facets that highlight both the delicate floral fragrance of the queen of Grasse and its intense freshness, leading us to believe it could transform into a lemon. At heart it is once again the magnificent flowers of Grasse, violet and blue chamomile, that delight us with their floral delicacy. However, the aldehydic notes and geranium combine to punctuate these delicate flowers with their tonic strength. Clove, for its part, brings its spicy touch. Almond and vanilla appear in the depth of this beautiful floral to offer it a few gourmand touches while taking on a certain sensuality of musk.
