Released in 1996, Rem is a concentrate of shells, white sand and sun. More sophisticated than it appears, Rem is also an ultra sensual fragrance. Rem was chosen as the name of the perfume mainly because it is the anagram of the word Mer (Sea). It brings together, in olfactory form, all the warm scents of summer, of vacation and of well-being, but also all the scents of one particular island, that of Saint-Barthélemy. The house Réminiscence therefore chose the perfumer Francis Camail to compose their essence made of sea and love. Francis Camail began his career at IFF (International Flavors and Fragrances), before joining Florasynth (now known as Symrise), then the house Robertet. It was there that he perfected his knowledge of raw materials. Francis Camail is a highly versatile perfumer who enjoys creating for numerous houses, with Réminiscence (for Musc and l’Eau de Rem), but also for Estée Lauder, Balmain, Revlon and Courrèges. The sea, at the heart of Réminiscence’s Rem perfume
Francis Camail thus imagined an unprecedented essence combining salty and amber notes. He states on this subject that his composition is a thrill brought by a dive into the water after sunbathing… Rem begins with the invigorating freshness of calone. A synthetic molecule, calone was discovered in 1966 by the Pfizer laboratory. Calone is the first molecule to be used on a global scale. Calone gives off ultra powerful tonalities that resemble identically those of the seaside. Fresh and natural, calone offers an unprecedented iodic effect. Then, the heart of Rem is laden with flowers and is meant to be feminine thanks to the presence of jasmine and lilac. The lilac flower grows in clusters in mild and temperate regions. Lilac displays a very luminous purple, white or violet color. Because it is a mute flower, no essential oil can be extracted from lilac. Its scent is therefore recreated identically in the laboratory. In perfumery, lilac gives off very floral tonalities, similar to lily of the valley, but also balsamic and spicy ones. The base of Rem is both sensual and very enveloping, as it combines white musks, vanilla and tonka bean. Finally, to enhance the composition, the house Réminiscence chose a bottle shaped like a pebble, polished by erosion. Its turquoise-blue color immediately echoes the color of the lagoons found on exotic islands.
