Mémoire d'une Odeur

The unisex fragrance from Gucci. For a few years now, and notably driven by designer Alessandro Michele, the house Gucci has demonstrated boundless inventiveness.

Gucci takes us back in time with its fragrance...

The house Gucci stands out for the exceptional quality of its leather goods but also as a pioneer of the famous porno-chic that was brought to the house in the 90s by the scandalous and talented Tom Ford. From this singular style, the house has retained the strength, whether in its couture and bag creations or in the sensuality of its fragrances, though in recent years the house has undergone another shift in style in perfumery. The highly original Mémoire d'une Odeur, released in 2019, will be one of the most vibrant symbols of this.

Gucci's Mémoire d'une Odeur, a fragrance that defies time and gender

Throughout its history, the house Gucci has embodied change, even revolution, through its boldness and uniquely styled creations. While Gucci's fragrances once delightedly embodied porno-chic, the splendid In Bloom, like now Mémoire d'une Odeur, belong to another genre, a sensual romanticism that is both modern and old-fashioned.

What is troubling first and foremost about Mémoire d'une Odeur is of course its unisex claim, a first for Gucci. From its green glass bottle, almost resembling an antique vial, to its star-studded packaging or even its advertising campaign, Mémoire d'une Odeur seems to unfold within a retro world where men and women come together and resemble one another. Moreover, the perfumer behind Mémoire d'une Odeur, Alberto Morillas, is behind many of today's masculine bestsellers such as Acqua di Gio or Light Blue. But let us not forget either that he also created one of the most famous unisex fragrances, the famous Ck One by Calvin Klein.

So Mémoire d'une Odeur is offered to both men and women, but above all through its scents, at once unprecedented and ultimately etched into everyone's memory, such as Roman chamomile which lulled our childhood.

The intense contrasts of Mémoire d'une Odeur, signed by the talented perfumer Alberto Morillas

No matter one's age or gender, this fragrance can be worn by everyone. […] Even if I could not say exactly what scent it has, it evokes for me a nuanced blend of chamomile, jasmine and warm notes. But everyone will find their own fragrance in it. Harris Reed, one of the faces of Mémoire d'une Odeur, for Vogue.

And indeed the very first quality of the juice created by Alberto Morillas is that it possesses olfactory raw materials that evolve depending on each person's skin. Thus the opening of Roman chamomile, never before used in a fragrance, offers facets that are at times green and sparkling, at times sun-kissed, all while recalling herbal teas and other milky and almond-like notes found in body care products.

At the heart, Indian jasmine, known as night jasmine, blends its honeyed, orange-tinged strength with ultra sensual musk notes, thus offering an intense warmth to Mémoire d'une Odeur. Finally, the sweet and gourmand depths of vanilla come to wrap around the almost virile strength of cedar and sandalwood.
