L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar

At Sisley, sources of inspiration are multiple. It is not uncommon for the house to draw ideas from its heritage, its memories, loved ones and even historical or mythological figures. This is how the perfume L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar by Sisley came to be, in 2023. It joins the Eaux Rêvées de Sisley collection, an assembly of six mixed compositions, suited to both women and men.

In 2023, the house of Sisley decided to immerse us in its history and its intimate world, by creating a collection of six fragrances: the Eaux Rêvées de Sisley. All of these evoke loved ones, anecdotes or memories of the d'Ornano family, founders of the brand. This is how L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar also came about. So, what does this perfume really conceal, and where does its enveloping, resinous texture come from? Here is our review.

Sisley decides to work mastic through all its facets

L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar is a unisex perfume that certainly does not lack character and that is built essentially around mastic. Ordinarily, this ingredient is known for its lively and highly textured aspect. Here, it is worked through all its forms. In turn, it becomes airier, earthier, warmer… It is simply surprising! To achieve such a result, Sisley first opts for citrus, pairing lemon and bitter orange. Geranium, for its part, lends it a more peppery aspect. Iris reinforces its powdery breath. The reed accord brings a light, aquatic touch to this perfume. Conversely, woods are numerous in its base notes, as shown by its final trio of vetiver, sandalwood and cistus.

L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar, like a sense of déjà vu

On the other hand, if you are a keen connoisseur of the house of Sisley, this fragrance may already seem familiar to you. Indeed, in 2011, the house gave birth to a very similar perfume, which was at the time exclusively dedicated to men. It was called l'Eau d'Ikar and it was Sisley's first masculine juice. Mastic was already omnipresent and this fragrance embodied men's deep desire to fly toward other skies.

L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar, a unisex perfume rich in numerous symbols

Once again, Sisley decides to draw on the myth of Icarus. As a reminder, Icarus decided to fly out of the labyrinth where he was imprisoned. Not following his father's advice, he flew too close to the sun and burned his wings. He then fell into the sea and drowned. L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar preserves from this story only an irrepressible desire for freedom and adventure. What is more, it evokes, in turn, the warmth of the sun and the freshness of water. It is also worth noting that it is a nod to the history of the d'Ornano family and its origins. Indeed, if the house loves mastic so much, it is because it is a scent typical of the Corsican maquis. Now, the founders of Sisley descend from the Corsican marshal Philippe Antoine d'Ornano… Quite a symbol!

A minimalist yet very seductive bottle

Finally, the magic happens with this perfume's bottle. L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar comes in a cylindrical, transparent glass case, with a fairly minimalist appearance. However, its cap makes all the difference. More asymmetrical and imposing, it resembles raw ice. This vessel is the work of the artist Bronislaw Krzysztof. The cardboard packaging of L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar, for its part, was painted by Elzbieta Radziwill.
