At Sisley, sources of inspiration are multiple. It is not uncommon for the house to draw ideas from its heritage, its memories, loved ones and even historical or mythological figures. This is how the perfume L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar by Sisley came to be, in 2023. It joins the Eaux Rêvées de Sisley collection, an assembly of six mixed compositions, suited to both women and men.
Mastic, the main ingredient of L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar
L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar is described by the house as a mastic turned inside out. In reality, if Sisley chose this description, it is simply because this ingredient is not worked in the same way as usual. For L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar, it reveals all its facets, being in turn resinous, airy, earthy, woody… It is simply unexpected, powerful and surprising! As a reminder, mastic is a shrub typical of the Mediterranean region, very present in Corsica. It produces a sort of resin, more commonly called tears. These appear when the trunk is cut. It is therefore the strong, balsamic scent of this gum that is found in L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar.
The fresh notes contained in L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar
To preserve a certain freshness, Sisley chose to add citrus to its perfume. Thus, mastic reveals itself as airier. L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar contains, notably in its top notes, lemon and bitter orange. These two elements lend it a zesty, citrus breath, widely used in perfumery. A reed accord completes this duo. It allows for a more aquatic and very light sensation.
A few flowers to enrich Sisley's mastic
Let us not forget also that L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar is a unisex perfume. To also suit women, its power is counterbalanced by the addition of a few flowers. Iris gives it a more powdery aspect. What is more, this element only reinforces the nobility of this perfume. Indeed, iris is one of the most refined raw materials in the entire perfumer's palette. Here, it is paired with geranium, known for its floral yet also peppery aspect.
A textured perfume ending in woody notes
Finally, L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar certainly does not lack character. It ends with an ultimate trio that is more persistent, deep and woody. It notably contains vetiver, cistus and sandalwood. These elements lend it a final, drier and earthier sensation. What is more, through contact with them, L'Eau Rêvée d'Ikar releases a very warm sillage that lasts perfectly on skin.
