L'Eau Majeure d'Issey

The men's fragrance L’Eau Majeure d’Issey From its launch in perfumery, Issey Miyake chose to pay tribute to water. Source of all life and an element indispensable to humanity, water is for him the most important material there is. It is also the one that makes up most of our planet.

Issey Miyake's haute couture collections are tinged with an absolute sobriety that plays with Asian and European codes to compose an exceptional multi-ethnic marriage. L’Eau d’Issey, the house's very first fragrance released in 1992, then L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme released two years later, pay tribute to the most beautiful and the most sober of all natural essences, water. Numerous opuses would go on to extend these star fragrances, but none had yet dared to venture toward more turbulent waters such as those of L’Eau Majeure d’Issey…

L’Eau Majeure d’Issey: when the fragrance of water becomes a powerful wave…

Jacques Cavalier had designed for Issey Miyaké's very first fragrance a pure and floral scent that, far from the opulent or sweet trends of the fragrances of the time, went on to pay tribute to the one the designer never tires of praising: nature, of course! Faced with the success of L’Eau d’Issey, the same perfumer offered only two years later L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme, which propelled its aquatic waves with, in place of floral accords, extraordinary citrus power.

Within a few months, L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme caused the same wave of success as L’Eau d’Issey pour Femme. From then on, the house would offer summer flankers to these two cult aquatic fragrances, but also opuses that played with the brightness of Jacques Cavallier's accords to blend into darker nuances such as L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme Noir Ambré or else La Nuit d’Issey; the same holds true on the women's side, as L’Eau d’Issey is a rich and complex source of inspiration.

For this new journey with L’Eau Majeure d’Issey, Aurélien Guichard and Fabrice Pellegrin worked on the accords once created by Jacques Cavallier in L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme in order to extract the marine force that would crash down like a wave of wild freshness.

L’Eau Majeure d’Issey, a new fragrance inspired by water, a masculine symbol of strength and movement. Water, in a major key. Primordial. Essential. First. Water as a principle of creation. Issey Miyaké on L’Eau Majeure d’Issey.

A calone note to bring strength and energy to L’Eau Majeure d’Issey

In addition to having imagined L’Eau Majeure d’Issey as an oceanic burst of freshness, Fabrice Pellegrin and Aurélien Guichard built their composition so that it would offer the beauty of strong contrasts between freshness and strength, between the clarity of pure water and the mysteries of deep woods.

The current notes are vertical, cold, luminous, but they become interesting through contrast with the others. They are softened with woods (vetiver, cedar), vanilla and Ambroxan. Aurélien Guichard on L’Eau d’Issey Majeure.

Thus the opening of L’Eau Majeure d’Issey corresponds to these famous cold and clear notes that the perfumer speaks of, through notes of grapefruit, peppermint, bergamot and Dihydromyrcenol. At the heart, the fragrance bathes in the softness of calone and hedione punctuated by a touch of tea. Finally, the sharp and powerful notes of cedar and evernyl echo the sensual strength of amber woods and the raw, wild animalic quality of coumarin.
