Invictus is the eau de toilette for men launched by Paco Rabanne in 2013, which became the original of an entire line. Véronique Nyberg composed it with Anne Flipo, Olivier Polge and Dominique Ropion, on the clash between a freshness of grapefruit and marine accord and a base of guaiac wood, patchouli and ambergris. Its trophy-shaped bottle was designed by Cédric Ragot.
Rabanne describes Invictus as a fresh woody fragrance built on the collision of two forces: biting freshness and wild heat. Its signature accord brings together grapefruit, marine accord and guaiac wood.
Grapefruit, marine accord and laurel
The opening bursts with zesty grapefruit, bright and lively. The heart holds a salty marine accord, clean and mineral, which the house likens to a breeze off the sea, with the aromatic freshness of laurel leaf.
Guaiac wood, patchouli and ambergris
In the base, smoky guaiac wood joins patchouli and ambergris for a warmth that stays close to the skin. Labdanum resin extends this base, which the house sets against the freshness of the opening.
At its launch in 2013, the composition also included jasmine, in the form of Hedione, and oakmoss, two materials the house no longer mentions today. Rabanne classifies Invictus among the woody aquatic fragrances.
