Werwulf is the unisex fragrance Heretic Parfum launched in 2026 with Robert Eggers and Focus Features around the film Werwulf. Composed by Douglas Little, this animalic musk brings together bitter grapefruit, rose and osmanthus in the top, iris, violet leaf and vanilla in the heart, and labdanum, vetiver, benzoin and a fur accord in the base.
Heretic Parfum classes Werwulf among its musky fragrances and describes its notes in a medieval tongue, as “first ayre,” “herte” and “lasting wyrde.” Bitter grapefruit, Turkish rose and osmanthus form the top; iris, violet leaf and vanilla bean, the heart.
In the base, labdanum, vetiver and benzoin surround a fur note the house calls “beest-fur.” It describes an animalic, earthy fragrance, alive in an almost unsettling way.
The House’s Story
The launch story evokes cold herbs, bitter and lunar wormwood, cardamom warming like a winter breath, and elemi seeping from wounded fir bark. Smoke and leather bloom, while castoreum and costus stir with fur and heat.
Fir balsam bleeds from black trunks, labdanum burns beneath the ribs, and patchouli, vetiver, moss and damp earth open below. Soft musks prolong the trace of fur in the winter air.
Declared Materials
The house details the components of the juice: labdanum resin, vetiver root, bergamot, cardamom and wormwood oils, osmanthus, Damask rose and vanilla extracts, violet leaf absolute, woody notes and several synthetic musks.
The house claims a formula that is 97% natural under the ISO 9235 standard, in non-denatured organic cane alcohol. For Werwulf, the house does not publish an ingredient list in its regulatory form.
