Werwulf

Werwulf is the flagship scent of the collection Heretic Parfum devotes in 2026 to Robert Eggers’s film, distributed by Focus Features and due in theaters at Christmas. The house sells it as a limited edition, in a 30 ml bottle at 125 dollars, alongside Blodwode and Þe Wode Hath Teth.

Released on October 26, 2026 for customers on the waitlist and on October 31 for everyone, Werwulf is sold only on the house’s website; shipping is announced for November 9. Heretic calls it an “eau de macabre,” without specifying the concentration.

The Beast Beneath the Skin

The house presents Werwulf as the scent of the beast awakening beneath human skin, the moment when civility gives way to something older. It brings together warm skin, damp earth, root, resin and the hint of wet fur.

Douglas Little, who founded Heretic and composes its fragrances, signed all three creations in the collection. He says Werwulf demanded the longest work, built around a costus root accord, from a threatened Himalayan plant that perfumery can no longer use.

With Robert Eggers

Werwulf marks the house’s second collaboration with the filmmaker, after Nosferatu. Heretic says it worked for nearly two years on the collection, with guidance from Robert Eggers, and consulted an Oxford scholar on medieval language and symbols.

The film is set in the 13th century, with dialogue in Middle English, and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe and Lily-Rose Depp. An alcohol-free extrait of Werwulf, in a 15 ml bottle housed in a reliquary handmade by Parts of Four, is announced for December, in an edition of 250.
