Embruns d'Ylang
For nearly two centuries, the house of Guerlain has been creating precious fragrances, born of exceptional expertise and outstanding craftsmanship. To achieve such a result, Guerlain surrounds itself with the finest perfumers while also blending rigorously selected raw materials. Guerlain has an innate sense of the exceptional, and each of its fragrances is always highly anticipated. In 2019, Guerlain treats us to a newcomer in the L'Art et la Matière collection. Sun-kissed and summery, Embruns d'Ylang draws inspiration from the Comoros archipelago to elevate the summer season.

Ylang-ylang, the centerpiece of Embruns d'Ylang
As the name of this perfume suggests, ylang-ylang is placed at the heart of its composition. Indeed, it is a raw material widely used by perfumers and highly valued for its subtleties. Ylang-ylang can be alternately floral, honeyed, spicy, exotic or slightly peppery. It is this full range of richness that Guerlain has sought to showcase here. To this end, the house entrusted this heavy responsibility to Thierry Wasser, its exclusive perfumer and worthy heir to the entire Guerlain lineage. Thierry Wasser set out in search of the finest variety of ylang-ylang, and it was in the heart of the Comoros that he found what he was looking for. Embruns d'Ylang beautifully translates the richness of this land in the middle of the Indian Ocean. It carries within it a luminous, sun-kissed brightness paired with the freshness of an ocean breeze. Light salty accents also echo the salinity of the sea. Finally, Embruns d'Ylang is a unisex perfume that is not lacking in character, capturing on its own the volcanic exclusivity of this region of the globe. Spicy at first, it opens on a blend of cardamom, clove and licorice. Then, ylang-ylang is softened by honey and sun-kissed notes at its heart. Its base, meanwhile, becomes creamier with the presence of sandalwood.
Embruns d'Ylang, a perfume from the L'Art et la Matière collection
Embruns d'Ylang is the newest addition to the L'Art et la Matière collection, and this is evident the moment one sees its bottle. Its rectangular silhouette is quite understated and minimalist. Yet Guerlain's richness resurfaces here from every angle. The transparency of its glass reveals a dazzling juice, resembling molten gold. This effect is further enhanced by a gold plate on one of its sides, finely engraved with the name Embruns d'Ylang.
The L'Art et la Matière collection brings together several unisex fragrances, each of which highlights the nobility of the finest raw materials used by perfumers. Here we find all the magic of an encounter between a perfumer's talent and the promises of these pure jewels of nature. A love story, one of particular affinities, between a note and a creator capable of elevating it to give rise to extraordinary scents conducive to emotional impact.
