Eau de Givenchy, synonymous with gaiety and joie de vivre. The Givenchy fashion house was founded in 1952 by Count Hubert de Givenchy. Today, the brand is celebrated for its fashion collections as well as its fragrances, and represents French luxury.
The Givenchy house, and its fragrances in particular, could be said to embody a refined elegance punctuated by a bold, even avant-garde charm. Every fragrance from the house, whether masculine or feminine, has offered captivating novelties since 1957 that never fail to seduce women eager for new fragrances and men in search of rare scents. Eau de Givenchy could therefore never be a mere eau fraîche, sparkling and invigorating: it is the fragrance of happiness!
Eau de Givenchy and Givenchy's Les Parfums Mythiques collection
The Givenchy house celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2007, and to mark the occasion properly, it offered a collection bringing together all the house's great fragrances. Through this Les Parfums Mythiques collection, one rediscovers the earliest fragrances that were no longer being sold, such as Le Dé, L'Interdit, or even Eau de Vétiver and L'Insensé. But also fragrances that, while still on the market, had been forgotten over time, such as the precious Eau de Givenchy, created by Daniel Molière and Daniel Hoffmann.
As for the perfumers behind this joyful Eau de Givenchy, the least one can say is that, despite their immense talent, they remained rather discreet. Yet Daniel Molière not only created Eau de Givenchy but also later the famous L'Insensé, which delighted devotees of the Givenchy style with its floral amber wonders. As for Daniel Hoffmann, he created not only Eau de Givenchy but also a second work in the same style, none other than Balmain's Eau d'Ivoire. Regardless, the small gem created in 1980 by the two men was enough to establish their reputation, so well did its scents, novel for the time, hit the mark…
When green freshness was modernity, the fragrance Eau de Givenchy was born…
While Eaux de Cologne were banished from perfumery shelves, whether feminine or masculine, for seeming outdated, Hubert Givenchy chose to bring freshness back into fashion in the form of a citrus yet very green fragrance, which gave Eau de Givenchy an absolute breath of modernity at the start of the 1980s, a time when heady fragrances were gradually taking over.
From its opening, Eau de Givenchy offers an invigorating aromatic and citrus start composed of multiple notes. In the heart, however, the fragrance offers a spectacular bouquet of delicate flowers, where jasmine, rose, lily of the valley and honeysuckle take center stage to seduce. Finally, a touch of tuberose paired with a powerful sandalwood reminds us that we are indeed in the era of the 1980s, when sensuality had to be asserted.
By offering a freshness punctuated with very feminine floral notes, Eau de Givenchy breathes out the past to better plunge us into the future of a femme fatale who asserts her sensuality with force…
Eau de Givenchy is still considered one of the most refined eaux, and faithfully embodies the Givenchy brand through its authentic and original olfactory signature. Givenchy on Eau de Givenchy.
