The men's fragrance from Courrèges: Courrèges Homme The house of Courrèges is considered a pioneering brand of minimalist and futuristic fashion.
While the magnificent house of Courrèges, mother of all boldness in the 1960s and 70s, was struggling to make it through the new millennium, two devotees of the label brought it back to life and creativity in 2011. From then on, these two men gave new breath to Courrèges haute couture and perfumery by launching a lovely women's fragrance and two flankers, but also, in 2018, by offering a scented Mini Jupe and two new men's fragrances, Courrèges Homme and Courrèges Homme Sport.
Courrèges Homme, or the great comeback of Courrèges in men's perfumery
The house of Courrèges, and notably Coqueline Courrèges, had to face the throes of financial difficulties in the 1990s and 2000s. Difficulties such that the label founded by André Courrèges was losing momentum even as it still enjoyed the spectacular aura of the 1960s and 70s. As a true visionary designer, André Courrèges had, at the time, managed to revolutionize fashion and perfumery with unprecedented and bold creations.
In order to restore its heritage and the richness of its past, the two new owners of Courrèges chose in 2012 to relaunch haute couture as well as the iconic fragrances that had made Courrèges successful, such as In Blue, Eau de Courrèges, and Empreinte. Better still, they offered, with great success, new fragrances fully in keeping with the creative and original spirit of the Courrèges label, with Blanc de Courrèges, as well as La Fille de l’Air and its two offshoots, La Fille de l’Air Monoï and La Fille de l’Air Iris.
What could Courrèges still be missing in order to reestablish itself as a full-fledged perfume house? A men's fragrance, of course! With Courrèges Homme, composed by the gentle and whimsical perfumer Alexandra Monet, and Courrèges Homme Sport, composed by the perfumer of emotions Benoist Lapouza, this would be accomplished in 2018.
When Courrèges Homme becomes an aromatic breath between power and sensual gourmand character
Courrèges Homme was born in 2018 from the talent of perfumer Alexandra Monet, who is strongly drawn to woody raw materials and gourmand, spicy accents. Yet it is reminiscent of an earlier men's opus from Courrèges, Courrèges Homme, which unfortunately disappeared from perfumeries in 1977, for lack of success. Thus, the 2018 version of Courrèges Homme is a fine challenge both for the label and for the perfumer, who once again dared to launch a men's fragrance in a territory that is olfactory far more feminine. A Courrèges boldness that will very likely pay off!
This innovative and bold men's fragrance opens with relatively traditional airy, aromatic notes of bergamot, sage and mint. Then, at the heart, lavender becomes an aromatic powerhouse, joining with an ambroxan note and tonka bean, creating a most original aromatic-woody-gourmand accord. Finally, crystal moss, benzoin and vanilla form an intoxicating gourmand ensemble that is also intensely deep and mysterious.
Tremendously modern yet delightfully retro, Courrèges Homme is very likely to appeal to men of 2018 in search of power and unprecedented accords!
