Babycat

Babycat joined Yves Saint Laurent’s Le Vestiaire des Parfums in 2022: a unisex eau de parfum by Dominique Ropion, inspired by the house’s leopard print. A Bourbon vanilla infusion meets a suede accord, pink and black pepper, elemi, olibanum and saffron, over a base of cedar.

The house spreads the materials over three tiers. The top pairs essences of pink pepper, black pepper and elemi; the heart, an olibanum essence and resin with a saffron accord; the base, vanilla, cedarwood and a suede accord.

To bring out the dark side of vanilla, Dominique Ropion wraps it in a sensual suede accord, woven with exotic spices and crackling resins. The house sees in it a blend that extends the leathery facets of Bourbon vanilla, raw and untamed.

Between woods and amber

At launch, the house described a reinterpretation of the woody family, in which the suede accord, animalic and subtly warm, blends with a smooth vanilla. It also links Babycat to amber fragrances, hence its dual standing, woody and oriental.

What the label declares

The label declares coumarin, limonene, isoeugenol and linalool. A UV filter and a stabilizer shield the formula from light, and four colorants tint the liquid: one red, two yellow, one blue.
