A*Men Pure Malt an intense whisky for a sensual man. A*Men has offered men since 1996 a gourmand oriental presented as the alter ego of the fabulous feminine Angel.
Thierry Mugler's fragrances were of course launched by the unwavering and absolutely extraordinary success of Angel, released in 1992. This very first gourmand fragrance in history was such a success that it became impossible to leave men without their own fragrance, and with A*Men this was accomplished in 1996. Better still, A*Men would go on to be declined into a saga of fragrances, including the beautiful and syrupy A*Men Pure Malt, an “angels' share” offered in 2009.
A*Men Pure Malt or the very symbol of the creativity of Thierry Mugler fragrances
With the very first fragrance from the Thierry Mugler house, Angel, the least one can say is that the designer's originality was never belied by his fragrances. Better still, the couturier managed to reinvent himself and reinvent the foundations of perfumery by working hand in hand with the talented Olivier Cresp and his artistic director Vera Strubi. In the end, Angel created something new by finally offering gourmand character and turning the very young perfume house into a house of prestige and innovation.
Far from stopping at this enormous success of Angel, Thierry Mugler offered in 1996 the masculine and very virile version of Angel, A*Men. He would innovate further still by offering rather surprising flankers of this A*Men, blending techniques and notes from different worlds, that of coffee with A*Men Pure Coffee in 2008 and that of liqueur with A*Men Pure Malt.
For A*Men Pure Malt, Thierry Mugler did not hesitate to pair his talented perfumers with a renowned expert such as the famous cooper Seguin Moreau. The goal of this joint effort was to age the initial composition of A*Men Pure Malt in oak barrels so that its notes would take on the peaty scents of a great whisky. The originality of this collaboration was acclaimed, and the perfumer would not hesitate to use it again in 2013 for the Liqueurs de Parfums.
When A*Men elevates gourmand character with Pure Malt to make it a precious liqueur
As we now understand, while the notes of A*Men were crafted by talented perfumers, it is indeed the aging in cherrywood barrels that gives it its full strength and its peaty scents that captivate our noses. Nevertheless, A*Men Pure Malt has managed to retain some of the emblematic notes of its elder, to our great delight.
Thus A*Men Pure Malt opens with fruity, gourmand notes that bring us back to its handsome elder A*Men, or indeed to the gourmand character of its feminine alter ego Angel. The heart of this A*Men, however, quickly takes on barley and subtle, delicate woody notes. Then we quickly drift toward oriental swirls with a smoky, peaty character, as if we were plunged into the heart of the scents of a precious whisky or a delicious liqueur. The journey is unprecedented, the scents are warm and sensual, the nose is won over...
