The Dreamer

The Dreamer is the men’s eau de toilette Versace launched in 1996, signed by Jean-Pierre Béthouart. Juniper, tarragon and mugwort open; iris, lily and linen form the heart; tobacco and amber hold the base, in a clear glass bottle stamped with the Medusa.

Marin Kristic, on ScentGrail, finds the opening harsh and synthetic but admires what follows, powdery and soothing; David Schwartz, on Everfumed, sees it as one of the finest tobacco-inspired fragrances.

What critics say

ScentGrail, July 2026

Marin Kristic, on 29 July 2026, finds the first minutes intense, sharp and very synthetic: mugwort and tarragon create a cold, almost medicinal herbal dryness that drives many wearers away.

After fifteen to twenty minutes, iris and lily take over, and the fragrance becomes a clean, powdery cloud that recalls fresh laundry. The base, made of tobacco flower, tonka and amber, stays close to the skin. He gives it three to five hours of presence and praises remarkable value for money.

Everfumed

David Schwartz, in a review updated on 30 July 2026, sees The Dreamer as one of the finest tobacco-inspired fragrances, with a tobacco fresher and crisper than he expected.

He finds it far more complex than its price suggests and credits it with five to six hours of presence.
