Versace

Versace, luxury in its DNA

In 1978, a young Italian named Versace Gianni founded a fashion company in Milan that he would simply call “Versace Gianni Donna.”

With his sister Donatella and his brother Santo, the young Gianni drew on his passion for theater and Baroque style… The result: garish colors, bold prints and highly provocative cuts. Versace's daring and provocative style quickly won over a great many followers. Versace diversified rapidly, creating accessories, perfume, and even a hotel.

Versace, a tragic fate

Provocative, Baroque and daring, this sums up Versace's creations. Always inspired by ancient and Baroque heritage, Versace developed an unprecedented Italian-style aesthetic. The designer's collections were so successful that the house was propelled to the top in the 80s. In 1990, Versace held its first couture collection in Paris. The house regularly bet on innovation, and also surprised with its mixing of materials, notably combining leather and silk, metallic mesh and plastic. On July 15, 1997, the fairy tale came to an end. Versace was murdered in front of his home in Miami. His sister, Donatella, then took over the direction of the house of Versace. She diversified its activities, notably conceiving a luxury hotel in Australia and a palace in Dubai.

The Versace fragrances

After establishing its resolutely offbeat style, Versace ventured into fragrance creation. The first Versace fragrance, created in 1992, “Vénus,” is built on highly contrasting olfactory notes. “Vénus” is intended for strong and courageous women. Many fragrances followed the success of the first. Among them, “Bright Cristal,” based on fruity notes, and “Cristal Noir,” the evening version, stand out. For men, “Versace pour homme” emerged, intense and invigorating. Then collections came to complement these great successes, such as “Green Jeans, Métal Jeans, Red Jeans” or “V.E.” The latest addition, “Vanitas,” is a fusion of Italian sunshine and the exoticism of the tiare flower. Versace fragrances have retained the house's extravagant spirit. An added touch of the house is its “jewel bottles,” which likewise underscore Versace's extravagance.

Gianni Versace founded his first fashion company in Milan in 1978. With the help of his sister Donatella and his brother Santo, Versace innovated and invented a new style. The house favored garish colors and provocative cuts. Over time, Versace became a fashion essential. Buoyed by its success, the house diversified, creating fashion accessories, fragrances and, later, hotels. Gianni's life came to a tragic end when he was murdered at 50, at the height of his fame. His sister took over the reins of the house of Versace, striving to carry on what her brother had achieved so well.
