Created by Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, Tabac Tabou explores the American steppes and blends scents of fresh hay, tawny savanna and tobacco leaves… Was Gainsbourg right, then, when he sang that God is a smoker of Havanas?

Tabac Tabou, a highly charismatic vintage

To create Tabac Tabou, Parfum d’Empire decided to play on the etymological origin of the word perfume. In Latin, it means per fumare, literally through smoke… Set ablaze by immortelle, tobacco here takes on accents of honey and cut grass. Tabac Tabou opens with a light, fleeting flourish thanks to the presence of narcissus. Its delicacy blends with the scents of fresh hay and tawny savanna. The heart of Tabac Tabou is very floral, with mimosa, lilac and acacia. Leather then comes to elevate this already highly charismatic scent. The whole is crowned with a Havana sillage, offering soft yet penetrating notes. Its honeyed, syrupy color gives the impression that the juice has been gilded by the sun, the way tobacco leaves are dried.

Tabac Tabou, back to the origin of perfume

While tobacco’s popularity is at its lowest today, this has not always been the case. Before the arrival of Christopher Columbus, Native Americans used tobacco to heal the sick and purify souls. Smoke was regarded as a sacred link between earth and sky. Often used in religious rituals, tobacco or incense smoke made it possible to reach the gods and nourish them with spirituality. The smoke carried the Native Americans’ prayers up to the heavens. This gave tobacco an almost mythical, magical quality, echoed in the perfume Tabac Tabou. It is with this original meaning of perfume that Parfum d’Empire wanted to reconnect in creating this unprecedented composition. The rarity of the ingredients and the combination of multiple fragrances give Tabac Tabou an air of divinity.

It took a certain amount of boldness to place tobacco in the spotlight in a perfume… Founded in 2002, the house is known for swimming against the current and for pushing natural raw materials to the extreme. Tabac Tabou undoubtedly echoes the original sense and etymology of the word perfume. Named best perfume of the year 2016 by the Fifi Awards of the Fragrance Foundation France, Tabac Tabou was recognized for its innovation. Tabac Tabou was also named best olfactory creation in the niche perfumery category, among 340 perfumes… One thing is certain: tobacco will never be seen in quite the same way again.
