Metal takes center stage with the Métallique fragrance. Since the dawn of time, metal has never ceased to fascinate mankind. Gold is the source of every covetous desire. Steel is used by the greatest builders. It is precisely this fascination with materials that inspired the talented Tom Ford.
Having trained in architecture and design, Tom Ford chose to pay tribute to one of his first loves: materials. He chose to call his new fragrance Métallique and to evoke through it the cold, sharp scent of metal. Not without elegance, this fragrance is a bold and daring wager. So, did Tom Ford rise to the challenge? What makes Métallique so original and what does it actually smell like? Here is our review! Tom Ford offers a clean but very chic bottle. Let us begin with the bottle of Métallique. Behind its apparent simplicity, it conceals a whole array of symbols.
Olfastory’s review
First, it relies on a striking color contrast, between the brightness of gold and the coldness of silver. Here, these two materials come together to form a single, highly chic whole. Yet their metallic spirit gives this visual a very cold edge. To counterbalance this coldness, Tom Ford opted for an overall rounded shape. The bottle of Métallique consists of two cylinders stacked one on top of the other. The whole is at once design-driven, elegant, and clean… the ideal combination for a truly timeless bottle! The coldness of the materials and the softness of its cylindrical shape give this bottle perfect harmony and balance.
Tom Ford's Métallique offers a highly contrasted scent
While the bottle of Métallique is nothing but beauty and simplicity, it must be said that the fragrance it holds also lives up to its promises. In creating this fragrance, Tom Ford set himself a considerable challenge: evoking the scent of metal in a fragrance! To achieve such a feat, Tom Ford first relied on lightness. Aldehydes and bergamot give it a very sharp, incisive edge. Its freshness is therefore indeed evocative of metals. Then, as if to recall the precious spirit of certain materials, Tom Ford chose a more floral heart. Eschewing simplicity, he chose to use hawthorn, heliotrope, and lily of the valley, unconventional flowers. Métallique then ends on a highly contrasted note and suddenly becomes warmer. From a very refreshing fragrance, it turns into a sensual essence, a genuine technical feat!
The futuristic and sensual campaign for Tom Ford's Métallique
Finally, all that was missing was a striking campaign to complete the picture… now it has arrived! Unlike most fragrances, Métallique is not accompanied by a face of the campaign in the traditional sense. It is embodied on screen by a virtual woman, like a silver statue coming to life before our eyes. Under the effect of Métallique, her silhouette moves and the camera invites us to follow the fragrance's path across her bare body. The commercial pauses for a moment on her chest. Covered by her hands, her feminine curves begin to pulsate. Heartbeats can be heard. A glowing shiver runs through her entire body. That was all it took: we are completely won over, by the bottle as much as by the scent or the campaign for Tom Ford's new Métallique!
