Dot, a women’s eau de parfum launched by Marc Jacobs in 2012, brings together red fruits, dragon fruit and honeysuckle at the top, jasmine, coconut water and orange blossom at the heart, and vanilla, driftwood and musk at the base. Annie Buzantian composed it, and the designer calls it the sister of Daisy and Lola. Its red bottle scattered with black polka dots recalls a ladybug.

Marc Jacobs launched Dot in 2012, in the United States and the United Kingdom in July, and in the rest of the world in August. The designer speaks of Dot as the sister of Daisy, released in 2007, and of Lola, in 2009; the eau de parfum is sold in 30, 50 and 100 milliliters.

The name refers to polka dots, the designer’s favorite motif since his very first collection. The house describes a juicy, lush floral, happy and full of vivacity; Annie Buzantian, a Firmenich perfumer, signed the formula.

An award

In 2013, Dot received from the American Fragrance Foundation the title of women’s prestige fragrance of the year, at the New York FiFi Awards ceremony.

The advertising

Codie Young by Juergen Teller

The 2012 launch campaign features model Codie Young, photographed by Juergen Teller.

For the launch of Dot in 2012, Marc Jacobs entrusted the fragrance’s image to model Codie Young, then 19, photographed by Juergen Teller. Daisy had had actress Elle Fanning as its face.

In the United Kingdom, the launch went through Harvey Nichols, which unveiled a window devoted to the fragrance. In its London, Leeds and Manchester stores, buying the 30-milliliter bottle came with a cake in Dot’s colors.
