L'Homme, the masterpiece of 4 ultra talented perfumers
In order to create such an elaborate composition, Yves Saint Laurent called on 4 renowned perfumers, namely Anne Flipo, Béatrice Piquet, Dominique Ropion and Pierre Wargnye. Anne Flipo is an uncommon and highly imaginative perfumer. Yet she grew up far from Grasse. She began her career at Créations Aromatiques (now become Symrise), alongside her studies at Charabot. She would later join the famous IFF (International Flavors and Fragrances). We owe to Anne Flipo particularly exceptional fragrances such as Lady Million by Paco Rabanne or La Vie Est Belle by Lancôme. Béatrice Piquet managed to enter the Versailles perfumery school, ISIPCA. Unfortunately, Béatrice Piquet passed away in 2010 at the age of 46, leaving behind great perfumes such as L'Homme de Guerlain by Guerlain or Lady Million by Paco Rabanne (in collaboration with Anne Flipo). Dominique Ropion inherited scents, as his mother and grandfather worked at Roure. Dominique Ropion possesses uncommon techniques and is considered one of the greatest perfumers of his generation. We owe to him great perfumes such as Very Irresistible by Givenchy or Pure Poison by Dior. Finally, Pierre Wargnye has worked at IFF for more than 20 years, but likes to work behind the scenes. In perfumery, he is truly a safe bet. He has already imagined numerous perfumes such as Only The Brave by Diesel or Drakkar Noir by Guy Laroche.
Contrasting notes and ultra modern tonalities
One thing is certain: these 4 perfumers created an ultra modern fragrance, which would be declined many times over. Elegant and sensual, the fragrance opens with the very vivid freshness of Citron and Bergamot. This freshness is immediately contrasted by Ginger and Basil, ingredients that bring character right from the start. The heart is ultra floral with Violet flower, a particularly rare and expensive flower, mainly used in women's perfumery. Once again, Yves Saint Laurent plays on contrasts, blending Violet with White pepper. The composition then oscillates between strength and softness. The base of L'Homme is at once woody, ambery, warm and sensual thanks to the presence of Sandalwood, Vetiver, Virginia Cedar and Amber.
