The house of Guerlain ranks among the oldest names in French tradition. Its catalog holds true relics, veritable legends that never tire of being rediscovered. The fragrance Mitsouko belongs to this category. Created in 1919, it has just celebrated a century of existence. As its name suggests, it is a Japanese evocation, telling the tragic love story that united an Asian woman with Admiral Togo, who had left for war. Mitsouko nonetheless evokes reconciliation and union. It speaks to all women who are free and perfectly happy to be so.

Mitsouko, a fruity chypre

Mitsouko is a masterpiece of perfumery that has crossed the ages without ever showing its age. Composed by Jacques Guerlain, it surprises with its short formula, counting only 19 ingredients, which is very few. It is built first around a fresh, velvety scent of peach and bergamot. Its heart, in turn, is dominated by flowers. It intertwines luminous jasmine, feminine rose and springtime lilac. Spices also come to enliven its sillage. Finally, Mitsouko has a base typical of all chypre fragrances, composed of oakmoss, patchouli, ambergris and vetiver.

Mitsouko, a bottle we know well

The style of the Mitsouko bottle likely brings to mind a well-known design… And for good reason! It is the very one that inspired the bottle of La Petite Robe Noire by Guerlain. One recognizes in particular its inverted heart-shaped stopper, as well as its shoulders drawing comma shapes. The transparency of its glass reveals a dazzling sun-kissed yellow. The name of this fragrance, meanwhile, sits within a perfect circle at its center. A silk cord was once attached to its stopper by a seal. Today, this golden hue remains ever-present on its spray bottle. Mitsouko is timeless, both in its scent and in its visual.

Her name was Mitsouko. Her name means “Mystery,” a mystery of tenderness and softness. A masterpiece of balance, a mysterious fragrance of spices and wood, with subtly fruity accents. Its avant-garde stopper, in the shape of a hollowed heart, evokes romanticism and was a true technical feat.
