Vol de Nuit

Guerlain launched Vol de Nuit in 1933, two years after the publication of Vol de nuit (Night Flight), the novel Antoine de Saint-Exupéry devoted to the Aéropostale pilots. Jacques Guerlain, the house perfumer and a friend of the writer, took its title to pay tribute to the aviators of his time.

An aviator and a novel

The house also links the fragrance to Hélène Boucher, an aviator who made her mark in a man’s world. It calls it the fragrance of the love of risk, designed for a determined woman who pulls on her flight suit before climbing into her small plane.

Saint-Exupéry’s novel, Guerlain recalls, tells the story of newlyweds separated forever by a night flight that ends in tragedy. The fragrance keeps its name and the image of a poetic light that keeps watch until the end of the night.

Formats

Vol de Nuit now belongs to Guerlain’s Les Légendaires collection. The eau de toilette comes in a 75 ml bottle; the extrait, in 30 ml, keeps the 1933 bottle with its propeller motif, in smoked glass and metal.
