Guerlain Homme Eau de Parfum is the 2016 version, signed by Thierry Wasser, of the men’s fragrance Guerlain launched in 2008 around a mojito accord. Limetta, peppermint and rum open a fresh floral accord, over a green woody base of patchouli, cedar and vetiver that the house says was reorchestrated for more power.

Kevin, on Now Smell This, liked the original version in 2008, from bright rum and powdery lime to a vetiver base, worn for over ten hours. Marin Kristic, on ScentGrail, praises the opening of the 2016 eau de parfum, one of the finest fresh openings in his view, but faults it for not keeping that promise.

What critics say

Now Smell This: the 2008 version

Kevin, on October 17, 2008, smelled the eau de toilette open on bright rum, with a sweet-sour lime note, not pulpy but powdery. Crisp green tea and a tart fruity note join it, and a dark brown sugar note intrigues him.

The fragrance slides into an accord of vetiver and a barely perceptible cedar that keeps a hint of lime. Three sprays scent him for over ten hours, with the presence of an eau de parfum: the first mainstream Guerlain he has liked in a long time.

ScentGrail: the 2016 eau de parfum

Marin Kristic, in an article updated on January 2, 2024, wears the 2016 reformulated eau de parfum. The crisp, juicy citrus and mint opening, with a rum that suggests a mojito without imitating it, ranks for him among the finest fresh openings.

After a quarter of an hour, a green woody profile takes over, and the calmer base gives way to cedar, patchouli and a vetiver close to that of Guerlain’s Vetiver. He finds it versatile and good value, but faults its four to six hours of presence, too short for an eau de parfum, and its failure to keep the promise of its opening.
