The Habit Rouge Eau de Parfum, Guerlain's fresh new take. In 1965, the house of Guerlain gave birth to an eau de toilette named Habit Rouge. Still marketed today, it displays an incredible longevity and stands as a true legend of perfumery.
Habit Rouge by Guerlain is a true legend of perfumery. Created in 1965, it is a splendid testament to French savoir-faire and to the rich history of the Guerlain family. Oriental and citrus, it enjoys rare renown and longevity. Indeed, it is one of the oldest fragrances still marketed today. Yet it has received very little advertising and was not revisited once between 1967 and 2003. It was in fact in that year that Habit Rouge Eau de Parfum appeared, a brighter, more refined and more intense edition of its predecessor. So, is this new fragrance as fascinating as its elder? Here is our review on the subject!
Olfastory’s review
Habit Rouge Eau de Parfum, new and even more luxurious ingredients
Initially, Habit Rouge was created in 1965 by one of the greatest French perfumers: Jean-Paul Guerlain. It certainly took daring to stand up to this legend! To do so, Habit Rouge Eau de Parfum relied on the addition of new, even more refined ingredients. Specifically, it gains brightness through the presence of neroli and increases its prestige with the addition of oud wood, one of the most expensive ingredients in the perfumer's entire palette. The result is a perfume with sensual vanilla accents, by turns fresh, warm or woodier. Habit Rouge Eau de Parfum embodies on its own the full richness of perfumery according to Guerlain. Its spicy heart is nuanced by jasmine and leather. The magic works instantly, and it must be acknowledged that this new fragrance brilliantly rises to the challenge it was given!
The refinement of an unchanged bottle
As for the bottle, Habit Rouge Eau de Parfum has exactly the same silhouette as the previous version of Guerlain's Habit Rouge. While this choice may not be the boldest, it must be said that this visual remains timeless and highly effective. Indeed, despite having been designed in the 1960s, it remains fully relevant today and preserves an unmatched sense of chic. Asserting its purity in thick, heavy glass, it features a front face boldly hollowed out to hold its red label. The only small difference: since 2016, it has been fitted with a wooden cap sitting above a metal ring. This gives it a more contemporary touch, without taking anything away from its old-world charm.
A masterful evocation of the equestrian world and of Guerlain's history
The release of this perfume in 2003 greatly contributed to bringing us back into the history of the Guerlain family. Indeed, every perfumer who worked for the house was passionate about horsemanship. Rediscovering Habit Rouge Eau de Parfum allows us to take part in this piece of their history and in the heritage of one of the greatest French houses, whose savoir-faire is known across the globe.
