To create the masculine version of Eternity, Calvin Klein chose perfumer Carlos Benaïm. Born in Tangier (Morocco), Carlos Benaïm grew up surrounded by the many scents of the Mediterranean. He began his career at IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances) and never left the company. Winner of 9 Fifi Awards, Carlos Benaïm was named Master Perfumer in 2013. Eternity for Men, fresh and masculine scents by Calvin Klein
Carlos Benaïm chose to compose a fragrance on a fougère base, modernized through floral notes. Eternity for Men opens with fresh, aquatic notes, namely lavender, basil, sage, petitgrain and bergamot. The word lavender comes from the Latin lavare, meaning to wash. Although lavender originates from Persia, the Romans used it to scent their baths. It was in the 16th century that lavender began to be distilled in Provence. It heals wounds and also serves as a vermifuge. In the 18th century, lavender was used as a remedy against the plague.
It was in the 19th century that lavender began to be cultivated and harvested for the perfume industry. Lavender essence is obtained by steam distillation of freshly cut flowers. Lavender releases herbaceous, fresh, woody, balsamic and floral tonalities. Then the heart of Eternity for Men shifts toward more feminine tones, combining jasmine, lily of the valley and orange blossom, enhanced by coriander and juniper berries. The earliest traces of juniper berries date back to 1550 BC. Initially, juniper berries were used as medicine, then the Romans heated them to obtain cade oil, which was used for funerary rites. Juniper berry essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the berries. In perfumery, it releases spicy, woody and peppery tonalities. Finally, the base of Eternity for Men is very masculine, combining sandalwood, white musks, rosewood and amber, leaving behind a deeply romantic sillage.
