Est. 1856 is an eau de parfum by Burberry released in 2026, one of the eight creations in the Prorsum collection launched for the house’s 170th anniversary. Signed by perfumer Florian Gallo, it sells for £175 for 50 ml and £255 for 100 ml on Burberry’s British website.

Its name recalls the year Thomas Burberry, aged 21, opened his shop in Basingstoke, Hampshire. The house presents the fragrance as the atmosphere of that first store, an ode to craftsmanship and quiet ritual that links past and present.

Prorsum, a Latin word meaning “forwards,” appears on the knight emblem Burberry adopted in 1901. The collection translates the house’s Check pattern into fragrance for the first time, through a method inspired by weaving: signature notes interlaced with a contrasting note, the “raker.”

Burberry compares this raker to the red line running through its House Check: a vivid accord that gives the fragrance its energy. The house suggests layering Est. 1856 with Gabardine, another fragrance in the collection.
