Florian Gallo
Florian Gallo: from southwestern France to the Shanghai workshops, the itinerary of a new generation nose. From the ISIPCA desks to the first young perfumer awards. Born in the south of France, Florian Gallo turned early toward the blend of chemistry and poetry that is perfumery; he joined ISIPCA in Versailles, where he earned his master's degree in 2016, before winning, three years later, the International Young Perfumer Award from the Société Française des Parfumeurs, a distinction that propelled his name in the profession.
An accelerated career at Firmenich – Shanghai
Spotted by Firmenich, he joined the Swiss giant in 2018, then became the first perfumer to open the Fine Fragrance studio in Shanghai, considering that China is today the most fascinating sociocultural laboratory in the world. This posting gave him an expanded palette of tech-nature ingredients from DSM-Firmenich, from Ambrox to Akigalawood.
Signature creations: when rock meets light
Goldfield & Banks – Mystic Bliss (2024)
For the Australian house, Gallo translates the rugged landscapes of Flinders Island through Kunzea flower, never before used in fine perfumery, paired with a saline patchouli. The result earns a nomination at the Fragrance Foundation UK 2025.
Zadig & Voltaire – ZADIG (2025)
He then signs the Eau de Parfum ZADIG, a woody floriental built around an original accord of roasted sesame, orange blossom and rock vanilla, claiming 89% natural ingredients and a refillable bottle.
Brunello Cucinelli – Soffio Zenit (2025)
In a YouTube interview, the perfumer explains that he captured Mediterranean clarity at its zenith through a bergamot-fig tree duo, softened by transparent musks.
Olfactory signature: smoky woods, animalic spices and floral chiaroscuro
Florian Gallo admits a predilection for earthy woods—vetiver, cedar—and smoky-leather facets inspired by natural oud, which he often pairs with the ambery transparency of Ambrox to create a sensual chiaroscuro. His style plays on contrasts: a textured opening (sesame, roasted grains), a sun-kissed heart (orange blossom, neroli), then a creamy-woody base that extends the longevity. On Parfumo, the roughly twenty referenced compositions show an average rating of 7.2/10, praised for the balance between originality and wearability.
Creative philosophy: technology, emotion and freedom
AI as a precision brush
Based in Shanghai, Gallo uses the in-house AI-Sense algorithms to refine diffusion accuracy and reduce the carbon footprint of trials; he sees artificial intelligence as an emotional microscope capable of bringing the creative idea and the olfactory reality closer together.
Storytelling as a guiding thread
Each fragrance is born from a storyline: a flight of birds for ZADIG, the shores of Tasmania for Mystic Bliss, a sun-drenched sky for Soffio Zenit—so many settings that he translates into textures and temperatures of ingredients.
Outlook: a nose to watch closely
Between projects for Asia-Pacific labels and high-tech collaborations at DSM-Firmenich, Florian Gallo embodies the new wave of globe-trotting, connected and sustainability-conscious perfumers. The specialized blogs Persolaise and Fragroom already highlight his talent for making materials speak like characters, while his interviews for the Korean brand Pesade reveal a creative process grounded in photographic observation and synesthesia.
